For the second year in a row, I had the distinct pleasure of being a part of the RaceSLO senior management staff for the 4th annual San Luis Obispo Marathon + Half Marathon. With more than 4,000 runners participating in one of the weekend’s events including the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K, Kids’ Quarter Mile, 1-Mile Fun Run and Family Fitness Day, it is quite a production!
The marathon attracts visitors from all over the U.S. (45 different states to be exact), and five different countries, pouring millions of dollars into San Luis Obispo and surrounding communities. Community support has also come in the way of charitable donations: RaceSLO events have donated more than $60,000 since 2011; the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has raised more than $1.5 million since 2011; and RaceSLO staff and volunteers continue to train, support and fund the Grizzly Youth Academy running club program for more than 150 challenged youths annually.
I am honored and privileged to be a part of this important, inspiring and fun event and look forward to the 5th San Luis Obispo Marathon + Half Marathon next April 29 – May 1, 2016.
